Square Enix Account: Used to access their premium MMO games.

Did you know there used to be a separate accounts for say. You know, to get 'SE points' when you buy games like Tomb Raider/etc. Square Enix Account: Used to obtain membership rewards / 'frequent buyer' - that sort of thing. But they specifically asked about a SE account, which I have from another game. Had they said you need a FF14 account, I would understand that I would have to create that, as i've never played before. I'm still confused about my existing Square Enix account not being valid here.

This was all through the launcher, and at no point have I been sent to a website. It led me through the set up of a new account, entering the cd key, and now i'm logged in on the launcher downloading 18 gigs of data.

If you have never played before and your Steam purchase is your first time ever owning the game, use the CD Key provided in your game library for the steps listed in the first link. For FF14, you apparently have to create a new square enix account through the launcher, which I have now done successfully. I think that account was created when I got the Tomb Raider reboot game. I've now selected the 'I do not have an existing square enix account', and went through the steps on the launcher to create a new account. To be fair, my options were 'I have an existing square enix account' and ' I do not have an existing square enix account'.
